While the ride is a fantastic experience, you do get very wet. We will however share some techniques that may help you keep dry (ish).

Valhalla is back open in 2023

The ride will be back open from May 2023 with an updated ride system, new effects and refurbishment of the classic elements that makes Valhalla one of the worlds greatest dark water rides.

Tips for keeping dry on Valhalla at Blackpool Pleasure Beach

The chances of keeping completely dry while riding Valhalla is extremely low. We can however share with you some top tips that will be the difference between being slightly damp and absolutely soaked.

Water proof shoes

A lot of water will enter the Valhalla boat. This means that you’ll experience a bit of pooling throughout the ride, leading to very wet feet. While wearing easy to dry shoes could be a good option, wearing water proof shoes is the ultimate solution.

Spare socks

If your shoes don’t meet the waterproof test or somehow water gets into your shoes, bring spare socks to change into later. Walking around Pleasure Beach for the rest of the day in wet shoes and socks is not a good experience and best avoided.

A good Poncho

A poncho and/or a waterproof coat are a must if you want to stay dry on Valhalla. While any type of Poncho will help, we strongly recommend a better quality one with a hood that fits more snugly. The good news is that Blackpool Pleasure Beach now offer a Mr Funshine Poncho!

A well balanced boat

While water will hit you from all directions, Valhalla boats are notorious for water flowing over into the sides. While this is probably unavoidable on the large drops, a well balanced boat can avoid this happening throughout the ride. The station staff will help with this but if you are in a group of 4 or 6, be mindful of the seats you take. Avoid putting too much weight onto one side of the boat, so try alternate based on your size.

Keep valuables safe

Due to the unpredictable nature of the ride, if you choose to take valuables onto the ride, such as a mobile phone, be very careful where and how it is stored. If you are wearing waterproof pants and a poncho, your pocket may be safe but we’d recommend placing them in a bag and wearing the bag on your front, underneath your coat or poncho. Alternatively, you can place phones into a small waterproof bag and secure inside your coat or pants pocket. During our ride a large wave of water entered the boat, soaking my leg and had my phone been simply stored in my pocket, i’m not sure it would still be working.

Don’t be put off riding Valhalla at Blackpool Pleasure beach

While you may get very wet, by following these tips you may avoid being soaked for the rest of the day. The ride is a brilliant experience and will be one of the highlights of your day.
